Why Consistency Beats Virality Every Single Time

July 14, 20264 min read

Every coach I meet secretly hopes for the viral post. The one that hits 50,000 shares overnight and floods their inbox with enquiries. I understand that hope. But here's the truth that nobody wants to say out loud: one viral post will not build your coaching business. Showing up consistently will.

I came back to Facebook after eight years away. When I restarted, I was getting fewer than five likes on a post. Not fifty. Not fifteen. Five. And I kept going anyway. Because I understood something most coaches don't: the algorithm doesn't reward a moment. It rewards a pattern.

The Viral Myth That's Keeping Coaches Stuck

The coaches who are waiting to "go viral" are playing the wrong game entirely.

Virality is a spike. Consistency is a foundation. If a post goes viral and there is no pattern behind it, no regular content, no relationship history with the people watching, that audience disappears just as fast as they arrived. They don't know you. They don't trust you. They have no reason to stay.

And here is the harder truth: the algorithm itself works against you if you show up once in a blue moon. Facebook is reading your posting pattern. When you disappear for two weeks and then flood your feed with five posts in a day, the algorithm gets confused. It doesn't know who to show your content to. You have to re-earn the reach you already built.

Consistency is what trains the algorithm. And it is what trains your audience to expect you.

What Consistent Showing Up Actually Looks Like

In 2022, my average engagement was still hovering at around 100 per post. Or less. That was after I had already been building for a year. Some coaches would have stopped right there and decided it wasn't working.

I kept going. By showing up consistently, week after week, that number climbed to between 300 and 400 engagements per post. Not because I went viral. Not because I had a breakthrough hook. Because I kept building the relationship, one post at a time.

Vincent van Gogh said it this way: great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together. That is your content strategy in one sentence.

Stephen King put it differently: amateurs sit and wait for inspiration. The rest of us just get up and go to work.

Consistency builds trust. When you show up regularly, your audience starts to see that you are serious about your business. When you disappear and reappear, they question whether you're really committed. And if they're not sure you're committed to your own business, they're certainly not going to trust you with theirs.

Finding your voice is a process. But that process only starts when you show up first. ✨

Three Ways to Stay Consistent Even When No One Is Watching

Most coaches fall off because they try to create content in the moment. They sit down to post and have nothing ready. The blank screen wins.

The first way is to batch your content before you need it. I keep a private Facebook group between me and my team. Every post I write goes in there first. The formatting is done. The spacing is done. The emojis are placed. So when it's time to post, all I do is copy it across. There is no moment of panic. There is no last-minute scramble. The work is already done.

The second way is to post at peak hours and protect your schedule. I post at 8pm in my audience's timezone. Not mine. Theirs. That's when they've finished work, settled in, and opened Facebook. And I don't post on Saturdays. My engagement is lowest on Saturdays. So I protect my post rhythm around that fact. Know your audience's schedule. Work around it.

The third way is to document your milestones. You don't have to wait until you have a perfect story to tell. Every milestone on your journey is content. The first time your Facebook group hit 100 members. The first time you went live. The first client result. These posts get the highest engagement because they let your audience celebrate with you. And when people celebrate with you, they stay connected to your journey. Document the road. Not just the destination.

Give in public. Sell in private. Keep showing up. The snowball effect is real. But it only starts rolling when you stop waiting for the one big push.

Show up today. Not because it will go viral. Because it builds trust. And trust builds businesses. 🙌
