The High Ticket Mindset: Why Most Coaches Undercharge (And How to Fix It)
Every coach who undercharges has one thing in common. It is not lack of skill. It is not lack of experience. It is one root belief, sitting quietly underneath every excuse they give: "I don't know if I can deliver results at that price."
The price is not the problem. The belief is.
I have heard every version of this in my workshops. "My clients can't afford it." "Who am I to charge that much?" "I don't have enough to give them." "People don't know me yet." These sound different. They are all the same thing. They are all a coach who has not yet decided to believe in their own ability to deliver.
The good news is that beliefs change. And the way they change is simpler than you think.
The Shift From Self-Worth to Client Value
The very first mindset reframe I teach every coach is this one.
Stop asking what you are worth. Start asking what your client will gain.
Most coaches tie their price to their self-esteem. They think, "Am I worth $5,000?" And of course, that question leads nowhere good. Because self-esteem is always going to wobble when you're building something new.
But when you shift the question to "What is the value I am providing?" everything changes.
Think about the person you help. What does their pain cost them right now? Not in money, in time, in relationships, in health, in missed opportunities? What would it mean to them to solve this in three months instead of three years? How much is that worth to them?
When you stop measuring yourself and start measuring the transformation, the price becomes obvious. And it becomes possible.
Three Reframes That Build Pricing Confidence
The second reframe is this: your price is not fixed. It grows as your confidence grows.
I've seen this play out with coaches at every stage. Erica was charging $2,997 for her new program. After her first challenge, she gained confidence. She ran a second challenge and raised her price to $3,497. The same people who had asked about the program the first time and didn't sign up? They came back and paid the higher price. Because the confidence she had gained showed up in how she showed up for them.
You don't have to jump straight to $10,000 if that number makes you freeze. Start where your current belief can hold. Then raise your price as your confidence grows. That is how it actually works.
The third reframe is the one most coaches miss. It is called congruency.
The transformation happens when you pay a high ticket yourself.
When I first invested in a $33,000 coaching program, I had already spent five figures on other programs. I didn't have a lot of money left. I put down a $5,000 deposit, and I knew that if I didn't make something happen in two months, I would be out of money. That urgency made me implement everything I learned immediately.
And here is what that investment did for my business. Now, because I have paid $33,000 for a program, I have no difficulty asking my clients to pay $30,000 for mine. The congruency is there. I am not asking them to do something I haven't done myself.
Edmund, one of my Platinum clients, paid in full for my one-on-one coaching. Two months later, he had already made back his full investment. And because he paid in full himself, he had zero hesitation asking his own clients for $15,000.
Annabelle started as a completely new coach. She charged $15,000 for a ten-week program from the very beginning. Why? Because she paid $30,000 for her coaching. At that level, $2,500 a month felt inexpensive to her. That's what congruency does. It removes the psychological ceiling that used to be there.
How Belief Actually Gets Built
Believing in your price is not a thought you can think your way into. It is built through action.
You build it by delivering results and collecting testimonials. Every time a client wins because of your work, your certainty grows. You build it by investing in your own skills. When you know that you are getting better at what you do every month, it becomes easier to charge for it.
And you build it by deciding to love your WHO so much that you obsess over growing yourself and obsess over getting them results. When your clients are your driving force, not your comfort zone, you will push past the pricing fears to keep showing up for them.
This is not complicated. It is uncomfortable. But it is not complicated.
Your price is a declaration of your belief in your ability to deliver. Raise your belief first. The price will follow. 💪
